The sister-in-charge at the St. Francis Hospital, Rev. Sister Georgina Donzing, has appealed to Ghanaians to attend periodic medical check-ups to improve upon their health and also avoid untimely deaths.
She said the custom of people visiting health facilities only when they are sick is a worrying phenomenon which must be changed.
The sister added that a person may be suffering from a dangerous illness but may be indolent and result in death if one does not act swiftly to nip it in the bud.
“There are certain health conditions which not attended to with some urgency, could result in death. This is why we encourage people to visit the hospital immediately they experience any changes in their health status,” he advised.
She made the call during a health screening exercise which was held in tandem with stakeholder engagement and sensitization durbar on COVID-19 under COVID-19 Response and Institutional Capacity Building Project (CRIB) at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The programme was initiated by the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) in collaboration with St. Francis Xavier Hospital for the residents of Assin Odumase in the Assin Fosu Municipality.
Dr. Sister Donzing further advised the residents to observe all the COVID-19 safety protocols and get vaccinated when it’s their turn to protect themselves and those around them as the disease is still deadly and alive.
She also used the opportunity to officially engage the staff of the Our Lady of Fatima Clinic at Odumase which is under the care of St. Francis Xavier Hospital, to achieve sustainable outcomes and deepen relationships and trust among the two institutions.
The Assembly member for Afutuakwa electoral area, Mr Kwaku Foh heaped praises on CHAG and St. Francis Xavier Hospital for the health screening exercise and the establishment of the St. Fatima Clinic that has eased the stressed the people of the area go through to access medication.
He also admonished the people to imbibe a maintenance culture to make the facility useful for a longer period.
