Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, says he is determined to do everything within his might, to fight what he describes as menace of lack of relevant development-oriented education, from all angles.

To further his position, the Akwamuman overlord has launched the Odeneho Kwafo Akoto Education Fund, a programme he firmly believes will shape the minds of current youth and instill in them, a strong sense of their cultural identity, pride and heritage.

Addressing a gathering of high-profile dignitaries including fellow traditional leaders, politicians as well as representatives of business community, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III notes education, as the only weapon to fight poverty. Akwamumanhene

“Nananom, distiguished ladies and gentlemen, it is a fact that my predecessors fought and built a great empire once upon a time. As the current Akwamuhene, I wish to follow their examples, however, the only war I want to declare on behalf of my people is the war against illiteracy.

“The weapon against poverty must be fought with the mind and hearts. In the words of Nelson Mandela ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’,” the Akwamumanhene remarked.Akwamumanhene

He was speaking Thursday, September 1, 2023, at a fundraiser and dinner dance to climax the 2023 Akwasidae Kese festival at the Royal Senchi Resort in the Eastern Region.

The traditional leader is worried “the dilution, erosion and even rejection of our values, customs and traditions by some of our young people”, who have been influenced by foreign cultures.

“With education, we can revise this trend and return to our young people, that strong sense of their cultural identity, pride and heritage,” he noted. Akwamumanhene

This, he believes, will encourage a culture of development mindedness with the outcome of producing technological advancement in all areas through sound innovation fuelled by patriotic pride.

” By contributing to the Odeneho Kwafo Akoto Education Fund, and Akwamuman Development Programmes, you are not just donating money; you are giving hope to Akwamuman, you are developing potentials, and you are providing the tools for individuals to build a better life for themselves and their immediate communities, ” he urged.

Tourism bub

The Akwamumanhene also implored his guests to consider investing into the tourism potential of Akwamu.

” For example, it is my vision to see the complete development of the Akwamu Gorge through the planned eco-tourism project. We want to position Akwamu as a formidable player in the tourism industry with theme parks and resorts to rival those in other parts of the world,” he stated.
