‘Ghana is ripe for a coup’ – Asiedu Nketia warns

Must Read

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has warned the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to be wary of his actions as Ghana is more than ripe for a coup d’etat.

The astute politician in an exclusive interview on Angel Morning Show, said the country has ticked all the boxes for a coup d’etat is Africa.

“If you consider what is happening in Ghana, it shows that we have crossed all the red lines for a coup to happen…,” he told host, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

He added that the performance of the government is worst compared to what occurred in countries that tasted coups in recent times.

“Our case is even worse compared to what is happening in countries where coups have happened in recent times…there is a total control of the referee in elections, subtle oppression of opposition voices and freedom of expression but there hasn’t been a coup yet…,” he added.

He further revealed that the forceful military takeover of control of the government has not happened in recent times because of the tolerance levels of opposition groups and parties such as the NDC. He insisted their actions have mitigated the coups.

“Our demonstrations are part of the means of having a stop-gap approach to prevent the coups because we can’t keep quiet for the worst to happen in Ghana…,” he said.
