United Front Party (UFP) founder and leader, Akwasi Addai Odike, has praised the Electoral Commission (EC’s) decision to utilize the Ghana Card as a means of identification, stating that it was the optimal choice.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, May 13, 2024, Odike emphasized that adopting the Ghana Card for identification would have prevented the current controversy surrounding voter registration.
According to Odike, the disagreement from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) exacerbated the registration process, highlighting a lack of concern from both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the welfare of Ghanaians.
He asserted that the focus of these parties seem to be solely on winning rather than improving the lives of citizens or the country as a whole.
Odike criticized the EC’s inability to uphold its decision regarding the registration of individuals under 18, suggesting that if the Ghana Card had been fully operational, the registration process would have been significantly smoother.
He proposed that individuals turning 18 could easily present their Ghana Card as proof of age, eliminating the need for lengthy queues and unnecessary stress at EC offices.
Odike also condemned political interference in the registration process, emphasizing that the EC’s decision should have been respected for the greater good of the country.
