Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, has blamed the tariff increase on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), she stated that she had already warned that the destruction of water bodies due to galamsey activities will result in higher water tariffs.
“I said that with galamsey polluting our water bodies, people would be shocked if Ghana Water decides to increase water tariffs,” she added on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Speaking further, she noted that despite the drop in the dollar exchange rate, prices of goods and services remain high.
“Although dollar exchange rate has decreased but it is not reflecting on the prices of goods in the market and in our pockets of Ghanaians,” Madam Oforiwaa mentioned.
However, she added that she was expecting the government to start the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy in various government sectors.
