At least 121 Ghanaian health professionals have departed the country today to undertake a three-year contract in Antigua under the government’s Labour Exchange Programme.
According to the government, the programme forms part of a broader strategy to tackle unemployment while strengthening Ghana’s presence in the international health sector.
The Minister for Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Agyekum, explained to the public that the selection process was rigorous and transparent.
According to him, the applicants were required to have between three and five years of work experience and underwent a thorough two-stage interview process, which included local assessments and interviews conducted by officials from Antigua.
Some of the health workers, speaking to Angel News’ Mubarak Yakubu, confirmed that the process was genuine and emphasized that no payments were made to any authority before their selection.
They expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating that they feel privileged to serve abroad, save lives, and make Ghana proud.
