The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that two of its soldiers were critically injured in a missile attack on the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in Southern Lebanon, part of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).
The attack, which occurred between 17:45pm and 17:52pm local time today, was linked to the ongoing conflict between IDF and Hezbollah.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations, the missile strikes hit the UNIFIL base, injuring two soldiers severely and causing a third to suffer trauma.
The Officers’ Mess facility was struck and burned down completely.
The injured personnel are receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and are reported stable, with arrangements underway to evacuate them to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.
The Armed Forces assured the public to remain calm, noting that all troops are currently safe in underground bunkers.
The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has lodged a protest with the United Nations headquarters in New York over the incident and urged all parties involved in the UNIFIL conflict to prioritize the safety of peacekeepers.
