Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, has outlined his side’s ambitions at the ongoing 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, revealing the team’s targets.
He stated that the team’s ultimate goal is to end the Black Queens’ trophy drought by becoming African champions.
Speaking to journalists at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, July 28, the Swedish tactician expressed the team’s renewed confidence heading into the tournament.
“We have three targets: qualify from the group stage, win the quarter-finals to qualify for the World Cup, and go all the way to win the 2026 WAFCON,” he said ahead of Ghana’s opening fixture against Cape Verde.
According to Kim Lars, the squad possesses the quality, determination, and unity needed to achieve its targets.
The Black Queens will begin their quest for the title against tournament debutants Cape Verde on Wednesday, July 29, before taking on Cameroon and Mali in their subsequent fixtures.
A World Cup qualification would end the Black Queens’ absence from the global stage since 2007.
