The National Sports Authority (NSA) has congratulated Ghanaian para-athlete Zinabu Issah for winning the country’s first medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

In a statement signed by the Director General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Authority described Zinabu’s silver medal in the Women’s F57 Shot Put event as a historic achievement and a moment of immense national pride.

According to the NSA, the feat once again demonstrates the exceptional talent, determination and resilience of Ghanaian para-athletes, noting that her success mirrors history after a Ghanaian para-athlete also won the nation’s first medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.

The Authority said Zinabu’s achievement is a testament to perseverance, discipline and the limitless potential of athletes living with disabilities, adding that her performance will inspire generations of young Ghanaians to pursue excellence despite challenges.

The NSA also wished fellow Team Ghana para-athlete Hayford Addai success as he begins his campaign in the Men’s T47 100 metres event, assuring him of the nation’s unwavering support and prayers.

The Authority further commended the President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, Samson Deen, and his team for their visionary leadership and commitment to the development of para sports, describing Zinabu’s success as the result of years of strategic investment and dedication.

It also encouraged all Team Ghana athletes still competing at the Games to continue striving for excellence while assuring them of the nation’s support.
