Ghana Water Ltd to shut down Kpong plant for 3-day maintenance, parts of Accra, Tema to be affected

Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee and Tano North MP, Dr Gideon Boako, has taken a swipe at government’s economic management following the conclusion of Ghana’s IMF-supported programme, arguing that the country’s celebrated “resilience” has proven illusory now that the safety net is gone.

In a Facebook post, Boako charged that the quality of the administration’s fiscal consolidation is questionable, describing it instead as suppressed development spending.

He pointed to rising fuel and tomato prices as early signs of strain now exposing the true state of the economy.

The comment comes days after the IMF’s Executive Board formally closed out Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility programme, with government touting the exit as proof of restored macroeconomic stability.

Dr. Boako’s remarks add to a string of recent criticisms from the NPP legislator, who has repeatedly argued that Ghana’s recovery reflects continued IMF discipline and favourable external conditions rather than the “superior economic management” government claims credit for.
