The Government nominee for the District Chief Executive position for Assin South in the Central Region, Felicia Ntrakwah Amissah, is alleged to have cried bitterly after she was given a vote of no confidence by assembly members.
According to Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack of Angel FM, the 34 year old nominee wept following her rejection as the new DCE of the area.
In a successful poll conducted by the District Chairman of Elections for Assin South, Mr. Daniel Dela Djokoto, 21 assembly members voted yes in favour of Madam Felicia Amissah while 12 voted no against her, with 3 coming in as rejected out of the 36 votes cast in the early morning of Wednesday, September 29, 2021.
As a result, she failed to attain the required two-thirds of the total votes cast in accordance with the Article 243 (1) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and section 20(1) of the Local Government Act 2016, (Act 936) which stipulates that “there shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting the meeting.”
Following this, the election has been postponed and will be held within a 10-day period.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority employee who could not hold back her emotions shed tears following her inability to meet the two-thirds majority approval from assemble members.
However, Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, and the Deputy Minister of Education who doubles as Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, both embraced Mrs. Ntrakwah to comfort her.
