The Black Princesses of Ghana have been sent packing from the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica following a 2-0 defeat to defending champions Japan.
Maika Hamano scored twice in the second half from the spot in the space of ten minutes as Japan defeated Ghana to take a huge step to the next stage of the tournament.
The defending champions after a difficult first half returned from the break very determined and scored in the 62nd and 72nd minutes respectively to take all three points.
Coach Ben Fokuo introduced Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah, Rahama Jafaru, Maafia Nyame, and Abena Opoku but their addition made no effect as the Black Princesses succumbed to a 2-0 defeat.
The Black Princesses group opponents in Group D, the Netherlands also recorded a 3-0 win over the United States to make the Ghanaian’s chances of qualifying to the next stage a thing of the past.
Although the Princesses have a game against the Netherlands they’re automatically out of the tournament having recorded no points after losing to the United State of America and Japan.
Ghana lost 3-0 to the United State of America in their opening group match on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
Ghana will next face the Netherlands in their last group game while the United States takes on the Japanese simultaneously at 23:00GMT on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, to determine which team joins Japan in the next stage.
This means Ghana has failed to qualify from the group stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the sixth record time, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2022 in that order.
