Ghana is optimistic of becoming Africa’s automotive hub in the near future, with focus on industrial transformation.

According to Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, the entry of some key foreign manufacturing firms into the country has boosted Ghana’s policy drive towards the agenda.

Speaking at a short ceremony to open the Accra branch of Zonda Tec Limited, a special purpose vehicle and trucks assembling company in Ghana, Mr. Kyerematen said the opening of the Zonda Tec Service centre and showroom is part of the move by the company to take advantage of the country’s automotive development policies to expand its presence in Africa.

The Trade Minister believes the move will open up opportunities for many Ghanaians to be employed as part of the industrialization agenda.

“With the coming in of the assembling and manufacturing giants into our market, we hope and sincerely believe that Ghana in the near future will be the automotive hub for the continent of Africa and not only West Africa.”

“The opening of the showroom today is part of the entire industrial transformation undertaken by government to create employment for the youth” he said

The Trade Minister also hinted that the government will reform the educational system to conform to the industrial need of the country, a move he believes will help deal with the unemployment situation in the country.

Managing Director for Zonda Tec Ghana, Madam Yang said the company wants to get closer to customers in its service delivery, hence the new showroom.

“We at Zonda Tec believe that as many people are buying our vehicles and requesting for services. There is the need to be closer to the customers so we have established the Tema headquarters and decided to have a central location in Accra so that customers can be attended to.

“This is the idea behind this showroom and we are building more in the coming months” she assured. The company can boast of about four showrooms and service centres in the country including an ongoing project at Kasoa,” he said.
