The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says the supposed leaked papers in the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for candidates has been rescheduled.

According to WAEC, the decision follows intelligence received from the ground on the alleged leak of two papers.

The two suspended WASSCE papers were initially scheduled to be administered yesterday September 15, 2021, at 8:00 am by the Examinations Council at various examinations centres across the country.

Setting the records straight on the development on Angel FM’s Anopa Bↄfoↄ morning show, the Director of Public Affairs at Ghana National Office of WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, said there have been changes in the date of writing the aforementioned papers due to compromising and not a cancellation.

“Please the papers have not been cancelled because candidates are yet to write those papers. If we are saying it has been cancelled then it means it has been written but it is not the case”

“They have been rescheduled after we realised that the papers have been compromised so I think we need to make that clarification,” the PRO told host Kofi Adoma Nwanwani.

She added that the desire to ensure fairness amongst candidates, necessitated the decision by the council to seek everyone’s interest.

Mrs Agnes continued, “I think that in all things the integrity of our certificate is very important”, stressing, “the candidates will be given ample time to do revision before the rescheduled date of the paper is communicated.”

She admitted that since WAEC constitute the examining body, it is key to improve upon their security on papers and to do all the needful to guarantee the safety of it questions from leaking henceforth.

While expressing her view that the fight against examination malpractice is a collective effort to all stakeholders in the country, she indicated that investigation is underway on the latest development.
