The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has indicated that it is shutting down the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant starting from Monday, October 4, 2021 for maintenance work.

This outage according to them, is consistent with other shutdowns planned by its upstream and downstream partners.

A press release issued by the Communications department at Ghana Gas, said the scheduled temporary shutdown, which would last between October 4 to 18 2021, is to allow their team of engineers undertake a planned routine maintenance on the facility to help improve the plant’s capacity, as well as prolong its lifespan.

“All key stakeholders, including Ghana Gas, Tullow Oil, ENI, Volta River Authority (VRA) and Marinus, have put in place the necessary mechanisms to reduce the shutdown duration, which would have taken a total of 48 days to 14 days.

“During the maintenance shutdown, there shall be an installation of High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) and, maintenance works on the replacement of Small Bore Piping(SBP), Heat Exchangers (HEX) cleaning, replacement of damage Products Cooler, replacement of detective valves and re-calibration of all our Safety Critical Equipment including Pressure Safety Valves (PSVs)”, it noted.

Ghana Gas also cited key benefits from the processing and transportation infrastructure works as enhancing operability and reliability.

Management again assured the general public that with the support of its operational team they will ensure stability of power supply during the exercise.”The Board, Management and Maintenance team of Ghana Gas wishes to assure all its stakeholders that we will be working with our partners to ensure system stability during the shutdown period and minimize the impact on power supply” says Ghana Gas.
