As Junior High School students aspire and prepare to further their education at the secondary level, they are expected to undergo the Computerised Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

Students in this regard are obligated to make six choices from different categories in order to have a place in one of their selected schools across the 16 regions of the country.

The categories for selection are four: Categories A, B, C and Appendix 3.

For Category A, 71 schools are enlisted. These are very competitive schools put together, out of which the applicants are compelled to choose only one.

Category B is made up of 239 schools. These schools less competitive compared to category A. Prospective students under this category are given the opportunity to choose two schools.

Category C has 555 schools. The C schools are lesser in terms of competitiveness in comparison to category B schools. Out of this C class the students are allowed to choose up to five schools.

In the Appendix 3, there are schools including 120 community schools named “Special Boarding”, which are the least competitive with enrolment less than 30%. Students are given the opportunity choose the schools as either day or boarding from this 120 schools.

Outside the 120 community schools however, they are expected to choose the schools as compulsory day under the Apendix 3.

In filling the form for placement, the applicants are expected to enter code of the choice of school, programme they wish to undertake together with the programme code because according to the National Coordinator of the CSSPS, Mr. Mark Sasu Mensah, the system uses the codes in the placement process.

The arrangement of the schools selected according to him is to be done in preferential order. That is first choice could be a category C school while second choice could be one from the Category A.
