A 40-year-old man at Anya Abowinim in the Ajumako Anyan Esiam District of the Central Region has committed suicide after murdering his 39-year-old wife and 12-year-old child.

The incident according to Angel FM’s reporter, Fiifi Baffour, occurred in the latter hours of Wednesday, May 11, 2022 in their residence.

It is yet unknown what triggered the shooting, but there has been an apparent tension between the couple in the last few weeks over infidelity on the part of Mr. Kwabena Tanor.

Madam Abena Okuwaa is also said to have confronted her husband for failure to return money their eldest son Kofi Bronya had gathered from a gaming service he provided for patrons of his father’s bar.

“The child generated about GH₵800.00. He wanted to further his education with the income, but his father asked for the money to invest in palm fruit business for profits so he could enroll him in school with the gains,” Fiifi narrated.

Apparently, Mr. Tanor had made a total of GH₵12,000 from the business, being a herbalist cum spiritualist on the sideline, but has failed to enroll the 18-year-old boy in school. The delays in refunding the money to the child became a cause of worry to both Kofi Bronya and mother.

Some onlookers at the scene of the incident

“Verbal exchanges ensued between the couple when the child entered their room. Next thing he heard was the sound of hunting gun which was pointed in the ear of the woman” Fiifi added.

Police in the district were contacted immediately the gun went off. Moments after they arrived at the scene, another gunfire was heard, but this time it was the corpse of Mr. Tanor lying in his pool of blood when the police forced their way into the room.

Meanwhile, their 12-year-old son, Kobi Tanor, was hit by a stray bullet resulting in his immediate death, while the determined Kofi Bronya has sustained a gunshot wound in his palm following a struggle between himself and Mr. Tanor when the latter attempted to kill the rest of the children.

In an interview with Kofi Bronya, he expressed bewilderment over events leading to the death of the three family members.

According to him, in the early hours of Wednesday, Madam Abena Okuwaa went to the bank where Mr. Tanor claimed he had saved the money to withdraw it, but to her disappointment, she was told by the cashiers he had no funds in the account. She confronted her husband and he promised to make the money available to send the boy to school. But “I don’t know what exactly my mom said to my dad for him to be raged to the point of shooting her”, said Kofi.

The bodies of the deceased have however been conveyed to Ajumako government hospital morgue for preservation.

The couple are survived by three children: a five-year-old, two-year-old and Kofi Bronya.
