Government lifts ban on construction of LPG outlets

The government through the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has lifted the ban on the construction of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) outlets throughout the country.

This is contained in a letter by the NPA, dated Wednesday, August 3, 2022, and addressed to the chairman of the LPG Marketers Association.

“We are pleased to inform you that Cabinet at its 35th sitting, held on 3 August 2022, has granted a special dispensation to allow the completion of the construction of stranded LPG stations across the country, that were affected by the ban on the construction and operation of new LPG facilities in 2017.

“We are therefore by a copy of this letter, requesting all OMCs/ LPGMCs who were affected by this directive to resubmit their applications to the Authority,” the statement said.

The news comes after the LPG marketers had at the beginning of the week shut down gas stations around the country to protest against the government’s policy of halting the construction of new LPG outlets.

This was after the Gas Tanker Drivers Association (GTDA) declared a sit-down strike on Monday, August 1, 2022, over what it described as unfair treatment by National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST).
