The President of the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana has urged all schools to continue running without fear since the persistent food crisis has abated.

Nana Oboadie Bonsu’s comment came on the back of the threats of schools being shut down as a result of the shortage of food in the schools.

In the latest concerns raised by the Upper West Regional Chapter of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), aside from the problem of shortage for the past two years “suppliers of food items for some time now have been supplying underweight items to the schools”.

Citing an example, the authorities said 100kg of maize has been reduced to 50kg or 60kg.

They thus resolved that they would recommend to the Ghana Education Service Management to close down all Senior High Schools in the region while they also recommend to the Management to as a matter of urgency get in touch with parents to either feed their wards or pick them home until all the situations are normalised.

But having toured the regions of the country, the President noted that they “realised that there is bumper harvest which can feed the whole country, and be exported as well”.

Thus, “we are assuring all schools in Ghana not to panic about shortage of food.”

Nana Oboadie Bonsu has however attributed the bumper harvest to the implementation of the government’s flagship program Planting for Food and Jobs.
