A 14-year-old candidate sitting for the ongoing 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination at Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District has reportedly defecated on himself during the examination.

The boy, a student of Fufou D/A Junior High School, was denied permission to go to the washroom by the supervisor at the centre.

Confirming the incident on Angel FM’s Anopa Bofo Morning Show, the Assembly Member for the area, Eric Opoku Fofie said “he was writing the first paper, Social Studies and then he had a stomach upset for which reason he sought permission.

“The invigilator granted him permission but on his way out, the supervisor asked him to return. He said he won’t permit the student to leave [the exam room]…after twenty minutes he couldn’t hold it anymore and defecated on himself…some of the teachers now rushed to the supervisor and he was sent to the washroom to clean up…”

The candidate was done with Section A of the paper remaining the Section B.

The boy, feeling embarrassed, was resisting to write the second paper, Mathematics, the following day until he was counselled and encouraged to do so by the assembly member and some counselors in the District Directorate.

According to Mr. Opoku, the victim’s father is late so an uncle joined him and some committee members to the Education Directorate to meet the Education Director and the Headmaster of the school.

After reporting the matter, “it was concluded that action would be taken at the end of the examinations in order not to divert attention away from the exams”, the Assembly Member disclosed.

He further indicated that they shall take the matter to the Regional Minister or the Ministry of Education if they are not satisfied with the sanctions given the said supervisor.

In an earlier interview with Angel News’ Bismark Mensah, the Unit Committee Chairman for Fofuo Electoral Area, Rockson Ntiamoah, described the situation as worrying.

He accused a tutor of Barekese Senior High School, who was part of the supervisors at the center, of denying the boy the chance of going out, with claims that the candidate might return to the room with a foreign material.

Angelonline.com.gh has gathered that family of the student may take a legal action against the supervisor.
