A communication team member of the Akufo-Addo administration, Kofi Tontoh, has described Charles Adu Boahen’s sacking from the Finance Ministry as decisive.
Mr Tontoh’s comment came on the back of calls on the president to relieve Ken Ofori Atta, the Finance Minister and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Mr Adu Boahen of their posts.
The two government appointees are alleged to have been benefiting from the crippling economy for which reason the country has allegedly not been able to bounce back to its feet amid the Russia-Ukraine war and covid-19.
But in Mr Tontoh’s estimation, Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to sack Mr Adu Boahen from the Finance Ministry was “an attempt to show that the President doesn’t condone corruption”.
That said, he also backed the decision to refer the accused person named in the “Galamsey Economy” documentary to the special prosecutor.
“Let us allow Adu Boahen to have his day [with the Office of the Special Prosecutor] and once all the facts come out, if any further action is needed, it will be taken,” he said on Big Issue on TV3 with Berla Mundi on Tuesday, November 15.
