Dormaahene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Attorney General to as a matter of urgency discontinue the trial of the MP of Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

According to the overload chief, he sees the trial as nonbeneficial to the country, thus, the president needs to instruct the AG to file a nolle prosequi to end the case.

The Assin North Member of Parliament-elect is facing charges of forgery and perjury in relation to certain alleged offences in the run-up to the 2020 parliamentary election.

He has pleaded not guilty to five counts of forgery of passport or travel certificate, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, perjury and false declaration for office.

However, on the back of the pending case at the Supreme Court, Nana Agyemang Badu II argued that the continuation of the trial will hinder development, especially within the Assin North constituency.

He made the humble appeal when speaking at the 10th commemorative lecture of the late president Professor John Atta Mills at the Sunyani Technical University on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

“As a matter of urgency, I [Dormaahene] am appealing to the President of the Republic [Akufo-Addo], if he has any role to play, that trial should be aborted, and the Attorney-General should as a matter of urgency file a nolle prosequi to end that particular decision and abort the criminal case against Mr Quayson.

“Honestly, I don’t see the benefits this prosecution will bring Ghanaians. If he is in court, he can’t fulfil his mandate so the president and the Attorney General should do something urgently to end this matter, so we move on as Ghanaians,” the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs added.
