The Special Prosecutor (SP) has been challenged to see the calls for him to investigate the alleged theft at the residence of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah as the biggest opportunity presented him to redeem the sinking image of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The office of the OSP was inaundated with petitions calling on him to investigage Cecilia Dapaah follwing reports that two house helps of the former Minister, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei have been accused of stealing cash and goods worth millions from Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s home in Abelenkpe, Accra.

They allegedly stole personal effects belonging to the former Sanitation and Water Resource minister including assorted clothes valued at GH¢95,000, handbags, perfumes, and jewellery worth US$95,000.

They have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing. The alleged theft is reported to have occurred between July and October 2022.

This scandal, the Central Regional Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gabriella Tetteh, has presented the OSP an opportunity to prove to Ghanaians that the office is still relevant in the fight against corruption.

“Lawyer Kissi Agyabeng since becoming the Special Prosecutor has been producing reports every half year which shows that he has increased the number of cases he has been investigating…it is common to read that out of about 140 cases being pursued, the number of proseucutions are either three or four, even with that, we don’t see the head and tail of those cases…,” she said on the Kokoase Segment on Angel Morning Show on Wednesday.

She further lamented that the OSP has failed to win a single case after operating for more than six years.

“So for me, this would be a very big opportunity for the Special Prosecutor to reclaim its image…this is a good opportunity to offer the needed change…,” she added.

The NDC Communicator said the OSP will be given more resources to work with if he shows by his work that he is very effective in his work.
