The Presidential Elections Committee of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare, is eligible to vote in the party’s super delegates congress on Saturday, August 26, 2023.

It comes after the camp of the Presidential hopeful Alan Kyerematen had raised concerns about the qualification of the chief of staff under the category of National Executive Committee in the delegates list.

However, the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee, Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah, speaking at a press briefing said the Chief of Staff is eligible to vote in the exercise.

According to him, Frema Osei-Opare is a patron of the party’s National Executive Committee, hence, her qualification to vote.

“Our concerted efforts have been dedicated to addressing various queries that arose during the process. Particular emphasis was placed on resolving issues related to the voter register. To uphold the highest standards of transparency, we distributed the provisional voters register to aspirants and encouraged them to conduct a comprehensive review, identify, and report any discrepancies. Subsequently, we received valuable feedback from the aspirants regarding instances of omission, duplication, and related concerns.”

“We are pleased to confirm that all such concerns have been diligently rectified. An issue was raised about the status of Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare. According to the party’s records, she is a member of the National Executive Committee and, by virtue of her being the representative of the patrons at the NEC, this gives her the right to vote,” he stated in the press briefing held Tuesday, August 22.

He ceased the medium and emphasised that the governing party will conduct a free and fair election coupled with transparency without any bias, fear or favour.

Meanwhile, the Elections Committee has rescheduled an ambitious goal of ending voting at the Super Delegates Conference at 1:00 PM instead of the usual 5:00 PM.
