President John Dramani Mahama in his State of the Nations Address yesterday raised a concern about Ghana’s economy which is in a deep distress with the country struggling to cope with the debilitating effects of inflation, debt, and economic instability, ultimately affecting the livelihoods of its citizens.
In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament House on Thursday, 27th February 2025, the president asserted that Ghana’s economy is experiencing unprecedented hardships.
“Mr. Speaker, as I stated earlier, Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution requires that I give an account of the State of our Nation to Parliament. I am sad to report that the state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis, and our people are suffering unprecedented hardships” he said.
According to him, challenges across various economic sectors, including a struggling private sector and high inflation, are key factors contributing to the country’s current economic difficulties.
In addition, he added that Ghana’s economy is in shambles, with deeper problems uncovered, inheriting a broken country with staggering challenges on multiple fronts, far worse than initially thought.
“It is common knowledge that our economy is in dire straits, which is putting it mildly because, after an initial assessment of the books, we have discovered that our economic problems are much deeper than was publicly known. We have inherited a country that is broken on many fronts. The profundities of the challenges are staggering” Presisent Mahama said.
