Western Region: Minister inspects ongoing road works

Must Read

The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has addressed the worsening condition of the Asem-asa N1 Highway, particularly along the Takoradi-Accra stretch, following alarming reports of increasing accidents and severe traffic congestion.

This highway serves as a vital trade route linking Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Togo and has witnessed significant deterioration at nine critical sections.

A thorough assessment conducted by the Ghana Highways Authority identified perilous spots, including Nkroful Junction, Agric Junction, Kojokrom, Shama Junction, Anto, Beposo, and several other areas in desperate need of immediate provisional maintenance.

Minister Nelson, speaking to journalists after inspecting ongoing repair works, stated that the deplorable state of the road has become a major catalyst for road accidents and unnecessary traffic delays, posing a serious risk to both motorists and pedestrians.

“I have received more than enough briefings from the Ghana Highways Authority on the subject to warrant attention and immediate action,” he affirmed.

The Minister emphasised that he is actively collaborating with the Ghana Highways Authority to ensure the affected areas are repaired before the onset of the rainy season, which is merely weeks away.

He assured road users that every effort is being made to restore the highway to a safe and motorable condition.

Furthermore, he underscored the strategic importance of the highway to economic activities within the West African subregion, noting that its maintenance is not only essential but imperative.
