President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee for Akuapem South Municipal, Paul Osae Offei, has been confirmed and sworn into office as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
His confirmation was successful on Monday, May 12, 2025, when he garnered 25 out of 36 total votes cast, representing 69.4 percent. This means the votes he secured met the two-thirds requirement for confirmation.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of the municipality conducted the confirmation process after the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, presented Mr. Osae Offei to the assembly members, followed by his swearing-in conducted by the EC.
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed MCE expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating him to serve at the local government level.
He also thanked the assembly members for their overwhelming endorsement, indicating that the trust they had placed in him is both an honor and a challenge to drive the development of Akuapem South.
Mr. Offei, a native of Aburi, acknowledged the task ahead and pledged his commitment to transforming Adontenman into a well-developed municipality, adding that failure is not an option.
“As I said, I hail from Aburi, and if I do not deliver on the tasks ahead, in the future, I will not be able to speak on issues openly because people will remind me of the opportunity I had as MCE and what I did with it. Even my children could face the consequences,” he said.
“So it is a huge responsibility on my shoulders to ensure that accountability, love, peace, and unity guide us to achieve our common goals,” he added.
He acknowledged that politics naturally involves opposition but called on assembly members to set aside their differences, form a unified front, and work together to build a stronger Akuapem South that will be admired by all Ghanaians.
“This is not the Akuapem South we envisioned, because in the past, we had a vibrant and admirable municipality that everyone appreciated. We should not be the generation to destroy that legacy,” he stated.
He also dismissed suggestions that he could not collaborate with other stakeholders of the area to promote the municipality’s development. He stressed that the office of the MCE is not for personal gain but to serve the people.
Mr. Offei further declared that his doors are open to traditional authorities, stakeholders, and assembly members for suggestions and constructive criticism to make Akuapem South great again.
