Lead Communications Team Member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has criticised the Ghana Audit Service, stating that its ineffectiveness and lack of productivity are causes for corruption cases.
According to him, the Service’s failure to conduct effective audits of Ghana’s foreign missions enables corrupt practices and related misconduct.
Speaking on the closure of Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, D.C., over an alleged corruption scandal, Mr. Owusu asserted that the Audit Service cannot be excluded when identifying the root causes of such developments.
“In fact, staff at the Audit Service of Ghana must be removed. The Scheduled Officer who represents the country in Washington must be summoned to come and answer questions,” he stated on Angel Morning Show on Angel TV and Angel 102.9 FM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
He argued that the situation at Ghana’s missions abroad is dire, claiming that “goro boys” (middlemen or unofficial agents) have taken over these offices and are enriching themselves through unofficial third-party dealings during documentation processes.
“The mess at those offices is too much because that is where people enrich themselves. Nothing works at those places, they are dominated by ‘goro boys’,” Mr. Owusu alleged.
He further called out the Audit Service for failing to extend its auditing efforts beyond domestic borders and went on to describe the institution as “corrupt.”
