The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed its profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for reinstating July 1 as Republic Day and September 21 as Founder’s Day.
The party also acknowledged the Honourable Parliamentarians of the 9th Parliament who played a key role in ensuring the successful enactment.
In a press release dated Thursday, 26th June 2025, the CPP stated that the decision, which came exactly a fortnight after its 76th anniversary, has given “them another reason to celebrate.”
“The Convention People’s Party, on behalf of Nkrumaists worldwide, expresses its sincere thanks to the President of Ghana, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress Government, and the Honourable Parliamentarians of the 9th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, for this enactment,” it said.
Recalling Ghana’s transition to republican status on July 1, 1960, the CPP said the date marked a major shift from a parliamentary system with a Governor-General to full sovereignty, with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah becoming the first president.
It also emphasized the importance of September 21, 1909, the birth date of Nkrumah, calling them worthy of national honour.
“The CPP is immensely grateful for the restoration of these dates to the importance they deserve,” the release added.
