The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has warned the public against relying on unverified information and engaging with unauthorized agents or intermediaries in matters regarding its services.

In a statement released on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Ministry cautioned that, submission of forged documents constitutes a criminal offence and will be reported to the appropriate enforcement authorities for further action.

It advised the public to rely solely on the Ministry’s official website for accurate information, contact designated officers for consular and other services, and also report suspicious activities for verification.

“All official information and service updates from the Ministry are published on the Ministry’s official website, in accredited print and electronic media, and through its verified social media platforms.

“Individuals seeking consular or other services which are provided by the Ministry should deal directly with designated officers at the Ministry or its accredited Missions abroad.

“Any suspicious activities or suspected fraud should be reported immediately to the Ministry or the nearest Ghana Mission for verification and appropriate follow-up,” the statement read.

In a bid to curb scams, the Ministry emphasized that payments should only be made to authorized individuals through official payment channels.

The Ministry requires all official transactions to be cash payments and only made directly to officials from the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department on the premises, reminding that receipts are mandatory for processing.

The update also featured current fees and processing times for frequently requested services.

“The attestation/legalisation of documents will cost GH¢200 and take 5 working days to process, a travel certificate will be issued between 2 and 3 working days at a fee of GH¢200, while a laissez-passer will also cost ¢200 and will take between 2 and 3 working days for processing,” it noted.

Also, applicants requesting a Travel Certificate from the Ministry are required to submit a bio-data page of a valid or expired passport, two recent passport-sized photographs and a signed application letter stating the purpose of the travel to the Consular and Humanitarian Affairs Bureau of the Ministry.

It added that applicants should check with relevant airlines to ensure that Travel Certificates are accepted for boarding, as airline policies may vary, before submitting their applications.

The Ministry also made known to applicants to proceed to the designated pay point at the Ministry to pay the official processing fee of ¢200, stressing that payment be made in cash to the designated official from the Controller and Account-General’s Department, after which they will be issued with a receipt.

It reiterated that official receipts of payments along with application documents should be presented to the Consular and Humanitarian Affairs Bureau for processing.

The application for a Laissez-Passer must include a formal letter, parental consent in relevant cases, the vehicle registration number, and proof of identity such as a Ghana Card or passport bio-data page for both applicant and driver.

For any further information, the public has been directed to contact the Consular and Humanitarian Affairs Bureau via telephone on +233 204 552 750 or email at consular@mfa.gov.gh.

The Ministry has assured the general public and Ghanaians abroad that it will remain committed to ensuring efficient, transparent and client-friendly service delivery.
