41st Farmers Day: 82-year-old man wins Overall National Best Farmer

An 82-year-old farmer from the Eastern Region, Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, has been adjudged the Overall National Best Farmer for 2025.

Mr. Adusei emerged winner during the National Farmers Day Awards Ceremony held in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, on Friday, December 5, 2025.

He was followed by Osman Kadiri from the Greater Accra Region as the 1st runner-up, while the 2nd runner-up went to 63-year-old Charles Gyato from the Oti Region.

Grace Owusuaah won the National Best Female Farmer for 2025.

The awardees were also presented with cash prizes and other items for their outstanding contributions to Ghana’s agricultural sector.

President John Dramani Mahama presented the prizes and commended the awardees for their immense contribution to Ghana’s development through farming.

In his acceptance speech, the Overall National Best Farmer, Mr. Adusei, expressed gratitude for the honor done him and pledged to do more to help the agriculture sector.

He appealed to the government to make irrigation infrastructure development a priority to help farmers increase output.

He stressed that irrigation infrastructure remains critical to the sustainability of the country’s agriculture sector.

Mr. Adusei expressed excitement over government’s plan to include irrigation infrastructure development in the Feed Ghana Programme, an initiative which seeks to ensure food security and adequate farm produce for the country.

“This, to me, is a step in the right direction towards achieving the goal of the Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana and secure the future Agenda,” he remarked.
