The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has warned the public not to pay any amount more than the Gh¢25 for the digital vehicle onboarding process.
In a statement on Tuesday, January 27, 2028, the DVLA explained that the vehicle onboarding process started in 2024 and aims to change all manually registered vehicles to a digital system.
According to the DVLA, the total cost for onboarding is normally GH¢288.55, which includes a Certificate of Title and a Vehicle Registration Card (VRC).
However, due to the upcoming new license plate system that will change existing vehicle numbers, the onboarding fee has been reduced to GH¢25.
This fee only covers the verification of the owner’s information needed for the digital system.
The DVLA emphasized that the GH¢25 fee does not include the Certificate of Title and VRC; these will be available later when the new license plates are issued.
The Authority also highlighted the importance of these documents, stating they prove ownership, protect against fraud and theft, and help with getting insurance and keeping accurate vehicle history.
It stated that the process therefore requires the presence of the vehicle owner, the vehicle, registration documents, the Customs Bill of Entry, and their Ghana Card for verification.
