The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has called on students to protect the environment and support the local cocoa industry.

Speaking during a visit to Achimota Senior High School as part of the National Chocolate Month celebration, Madam Houadjeto emphasized the importance of preserving the environment for sustainable cocoa production.

“We are growing organic cocoa farms, which means it doesn’t grow with chemicals; It grows naturally, and we take very good care of it,” she said.

The CEO highlighted the health benefits of cocoa, noting that it is rich in antioxidants that improve blood flow to the brain and enhance memory and concentration.

Madam Houadjeto also stressed the cultural significance of cocoa, stating that it represents Ghana’s history, resilience, and opportunity.

She urged students to value cocoa and support local products, saying “it is an exhibition of love for the country, culture, and hard-working men and women along the cocoa value chain.”

She emphasized the need for environmental stewardship, noting that cocoa cultivation requires healthy soil, forests, and waterbodies.

“Safeguarding the land that grows cocoa is safeguarding Ghana’s heritage and tomorrow,” she said.

She encouraged students to become ambassadors for environmental protection and support local cocoa products, promoting the values of love, heritage, and responsibility.
