The Ghana Airport Company Limited has planned to expand and modernise facilities at the Accra International Airport (AIA) to enhance the travel experience, the government has disclosed.
The project is expected to commence in the middle of the year, according to Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Facilities earmarked for expansion include the car park, retail spaces, sky view lounge, accommodation, and conference facilities, among others.
“The Ghana Airport Company Limited is pressing on with aggressive plans to expand and modernise facilities at the Accra International Airport to improve the travel experience,” Mr. Kwakye-Ofosu said in a Facebook post.
He noted that the current car park at Terminal 3, which accommodates up to 513 cars, has proven inadequate, creating congestion during peak hours.
To address this, he added, work will begin in the middle of this year on a new 7-storey, 2000 parking bay car park.
Additional facilities planned as part of the project include a 4000m2 retail space to be developed into a shopping mall with restaurants.
The expansion will also feature a sky view lounge to allow passengers and visitors to observe flight take-offs and landings.
“A 2 in one airport hotel (one budget hotel one luxury hotel – budget hotel with 250 rooms and a 120-room luxury hotel to accommodate overnight stays for grounded flight. Conference facility and business centre,” the statement reads.
