The Project Coordinator of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Ayishetu Mohammed, was recognised during the commemoration of World Water Day, held at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, in the Western Region.

Madam Ayishetu’s recognition was announced when a team from the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation collaborated with stakeholders at UMaT on Saturday, March 22, 2026, to observe World Water Day under the inspiring theme “Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows.”

The event featured meaningful discussions on how water sustainability is closely linked to gender equality, emphasizing that access to clean water is not only an environmental issue but also a social one.

A 64-member Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) committee that participated in the event highlighted the importance of collaboration and shared responsibility in protecting this vital resource.

Receiving the award, she expressed deep appreciation to stakeholders for the acknowledgement and underscored the collective commitment of colleagues that shaped this honor.

“This recognition reflects the collective effort of teams, partners, and communities committed to improving water resource management and promoting sustainable development. I am grateful to the Geological Engineering Department of UMaT for this acknowledgment and for highlighting the importance of community-centered impact in the water sector.

“My sincere appreciation goes to Gold Fields Ghana Foundation and all stakeholders I have had the privilege to work with over the years. This milestone reinforces my commitment to continue contributing meaningfully to society,” said the Project Coordinator in a statement.

In a statement, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation expressed pride in the milestone achieved by their staff, noting that her dedication inspired everyone at the firm and exemplified the role of women in promoting sustainability in society.

“Her achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a powerful acknowledgment of the role of women in driving sustainable development outcomes.

“Well done, Ayisha! Your dedication inspires us all to keep building a future where water, equality, and community wellbeing flow together,” the Foundation underscored.

As part of the celebration, the New Atuabo Community was recognized for its exemplary leadership in managing local water systems, a true demonstration of leadership, responsibility, and sustainability in action.

Since its inception in 2004, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has invested over US$2.6 million in water and sanitation projects, enhancing access to clean water and sanitation facilities across host communities.

World Water Day is held annually on March 22 as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
