The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, has congratulated Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama and his company, Engineers and Planners, following their successful takeover of the Damang mining site.
The Damang Mine takeover marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s extractive industry, representing a major step toward full local ownership of one of the country’s key mineral assets.
In a statement, Hon. Taylor described the transition as “the dawn of a new chapter,” stressing the importance of increased Ghanaian participation and control in the management of natural resources.
Drawing on over 28 years of experience in the mining sector, the MP expressed confidence in the technical expertise and operational capacity of Engineers and Planners. He noted that the company’s nearly three-decade presence at the Damang site as subcontractors places it in a strong position to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
“Engineers and Planners have proven themselves as a formidable force, not only in Ghana but across Africa. With their vast human and technological resources, I have no doubt they will transform the Damang site into a model of excellence,” he stated.
Hon. Taylor also acknowledged the role of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who initiated the takeover process in 2022, and commended the current government for seeing the process through. He further paid tribute to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his consistent advocacy for increased Ghanaian ownership of the country’s mineral resources.
He extended appreciation to the chiefs and youth of Damang for their cooperation, which contributed to a smooth and peaceful transition.
Highlighting the availability of skilled professionals in Tarkwa Nsuaem, Hon. Taylor urged Dr. Mahama to leverage local expertise to support operations at the site. He assured that the constituency stands ready to provide the necessary human resource support.
Looking ahead, the MP pledged to promote strong collaboration between Engineers and Planners and the local communities, emphasizing partnership and open engagement as key to sustainable success.
“This achievement is not just a corporate success; it is a national victory. It reflects what we can accomplish when Ghanaian ingenuity, leadership, and determination are given the opportunity to lead,” he concluded.
The Damang Mine takeover is widely seen as a powerful symbol of Ghana’s growing capacity to manage its natural resources and build a more inclusive and self-reliant mining sector.
