The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an upward review of electricity and water tariffs for the third quarter of 2026, with electricity tariffs increasing by 3.49% and water tariffs by 0.85%, effective July 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on June 22, 2026, the Commission said the quarterly review was conducted in line with its mandate to periodically adjust tariffs to reflect changes in key operational factors affecting utility service delivery.
“The existing electricity and water tariffs have been reviewed upwards by 3.49% and 0.85%, respectively, effective July 01, 2026,” the statement said.
According to PURC, the adjustments are intended to reflect developments within the quarter that are beyond the control of Utility Service Providers (USPs), while ensuring the financial sustainability of the sector.
“These Quarterly adjustments are undertaken by the Commission to maintain the real value of the existing tariffs, which would enable the utility service providers to remain financially viable and to deliver on their services to consumers, while bearing in mind the impact of these tariffs on the well-being of consumers in general,” the Commission stated.
PURC said the review took into account several operational indicators, including the Ghana cedi-US dollar exchange rate, inflation, the weighted average cost of natural gas, and the electricity generation mix.
The Commission applied a weighted average exchange rate of GH¢11.2228 to US$1.0000 for the third quarter of 2026, based on the three-month actual inter-bank average exchange rate from April 1 to June 19, 2026.
It said this represented a 0.2% depreciation of the Ghana cedi compared to the second quarter.
On inflation, PURC said it applied a three-month average inflation rate of 3.43%, representing a downward review of 17.74% from the previous quarter’s rate of 4.17%.
The Commission also used a weighted average cost of gas (WACOG) price of US$7.9708/MMBtu, indicating a 1.58% downward adjustment from the previous quarter’s rate of US$8.0988/MMBtu.
In light of the electricity generation mix, PURC said the projected hydro-thermal mix remained unchanged from the second quarter, comprising 20.90% hydro generation and 79.10% thermal generation.
