The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West Municipal Assembly, John Desmond Sowah Nai, has warned that anyone who attempts to disrupt this year’s Homowo festival will face the full rigours of the law.
Speaking at a meeting with traditional heads of the Ga West community ahead of the festival, Mr. Nai said the Assembly and security agencies will not tolerate violence or chieftaincy disputes during the celebrations.
“The police are here to help maintain peace. Anyone who attempts to disturb the peace of the festival will face the full rigours of the law,” Mr. Nai stated on Friday, July 31, 2026.
He said the essence of Homowo is unity and togetherness, not conflict.
“The purpose of Homowo is for us to come together, celebrate and make merry. We do not want a situation where this celebration will be marred by violence, especially over disputes about who has been gazetted as chief to lead the festival in the various areas,” he said.
To ensure a peaceful celebration, all traditional rulers present signed a bond of peace.
“All traditional rulers are gathered here today to sign this bond to ensure that in every area where the celebration will take place, there will be absolute peace,” Mr. Nai added.
“Homowo is meant to be celebrated peacefully. For that to happen, we must come together as one people. This is why we have convened this meeting ahead of the festival,” he stressed.
Mr. Nai also tied the call for peace to the President’s vision saying: “Our President, John Dramani Mahama, is a man of peace, and he expects that Homowo will be celebrated peacefully across the country.”
The Divisional Police Commander at Amasaman, Chief Superintendent Peter Adjei, said the police will work with the official list of gazetted chiefs and queen mothers from the Regional House of Chiefs to ensure order during the festivities.
“Security is a shared responsibility. I am calling on all chiefs to collaborate with the security agencies to ensure the smooth running of the festival,” Chief Supt. Adjei said.
The Ga West Municipal Assembly said it will continue working with traditional authorities and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Homowo celebration.
