Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has lauded the national women’s football team following their triumphant win over Algeria to reach the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
She described the team’s victory as “remarkable” and highlighted their reputation in women’s football on the continent.
“A big congratulations to our Black Queens for their remarkable victory over Algeria to secure a spot in the Women’s AFCON semi-finals.”
Ahead of the crucial semi-final clash with host nation Morocco, the Vice President admonished the Queens to continue raising Ghana’s flag high, assuring them of the general public’s unwavering support.
“As they prepare to face Morocco, we salute their resilience and urge them to keep pushing. The whole nation is behind you,” she said further in a Facebook post.
Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang expressed optimism about the Queens’ quest for continental glory for the first time.
“..The dream is alive!” she said confidently.
Her remarks came after Ghana edged past Algeria over the weekend to earn a semi-final berth for the first time since 2016.
The Black Queens now prepare to take on Morocco, another North African opponent, on Tuesday, July 22. The winner will face either Nigeria or South Africa in the finals.
