The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced an investigation into allegations of malpractice in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The move comes after reports in some sections of the media, particularly on JoyNews TV, suggested possible malpractice in some schools.
In a press release dated Sunday, September 7, 2025, signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service expressed its commitment to upholding the integrity of examinations.
“Cheating undermines the integrity of our education system, destroys meritocracy, and produces graduates who lack the competencies required for national development,” the release stated.
GES plans to obtain and scrutinize documentary evidence and original transcripts related to the allegations before conducting a full-scale investigation.
Management has the support of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the GES Council to take disciplinary action against any staff member found involved in aiding or abetting cheating.
“We remain committed to upholding the integrity of examinations and will collaborate fully with WAEC, National Security, and law enforcement agencies to stamp out this menace,” the press release assured.
The GES emphasized that severe disciplinary action will be taken against any official found guilty of involvement in examination malpractice, in accordance with the law and established service regulations.
