Gospel singer, Grace Ashly, has disclosed that she has not received any music royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) for the last 18 years of her career.
In a video sighted by Angelonline.com, the celebrated musician expressed disappointment over the condition of Ghana’s music industry, stating that she would prefer to begin her musical journey in the United States if given the chance.
According to her, artistes in the United States enjoy numerous benefits and opportunities that are largely unavailable to musicians in Ghana.
“If I had the opportunity to start music again, I would choose the US. From what I have learned, musicians there receive several benefits that many musicians in Ghana cannot access,” she stated.
Grace Ashly further revealed that despite spending 25 years in the music industry, she has not received any royalty payments for nearly two decades.
“When we discuss music royalties in Ghana, I can say that in my 25 years as a musician, I have not received even a single pesewa for the past 18 years,” she lamented.
The gospel artiste maintained that in countries with stronger systems, such concerns would not even arise because musicians would clearly see the rewards of their work.
“If I were in the US, I wouldn’t have to talk about these things. The results would speak for themselves. The system we have in Ghana is not properly structured,” she added.
