The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has released GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to pay cocoa farmers across all cocoa-growing regions.
According to a press release dated Thursday, July 2, 2026, the funds are for cocoa purchases made through the approved purchasing system.
COCOBOD stated that approximately GH¢1.4 billion of the GH¢2.6 billion has been earmarked to clear the remaining balance LBCs owe farmers for cocoa taken on credit.
Since the beginning of the 2025/26 Crop Season, COCOBOD said it has paid a total of GH¢34,523,447,255.64 to LBCs for onward payment to farmers.
The Board said it is working closely with LBCs and has instituted monitoring mechanisms to ensure the funds reach the farmers who are owed.
COCOBOD assured all farmers that no farmer will be denied payment for cocoa legitimately sold through the approved system, and urged farmers with outstanding payments to engage the relevant LBC through which they sold their cocoa.
The Board described the release of funds as evidence of the Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of cocoa farmers and preserving the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
It also thanked farmers for their patience, resilience, and understanding during what it called a challenging period, and said it remains committed to protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector.
