Workers of Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) in the Asuogyaman District – Eastern Region have staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 over what they described as decades of poor conditions of service, including 10 months of unpaid salaries.

The workers, wearing red bands and carrying placards with inscriptions such as “ATL workers are dying,” “10 Months No Pay,” and “Asuogyaman MP, we need your intervention,” converged at the company’s main entrance in Akosombo.

They later marched to the Asuogyaman District Assembly to present a petition to the District Chief Executive.

Addressing the media, Local Union Secretary Joseph Kudjo Botwe said ATL workers have endured low salaries, delayed allowances, and other poor service conditions for many years.

According to him, the situation has worsened with the rising cost of living, leading to broken homes and, in some cases, the deaths of workers whose take-home pay cannot meet basic needs. He said salaries have been delayed for over 10 months.

“Workers’ welfare keeps getting worse. People are suffering. Our pay cannot even take care of our basic needs and it has been delayed for over 10 months,” Botwe stated.

He appealed to the Government of Ghana to urgently intervene, revive the factory, and restore ATL to its past glory to help reduce unemployment in the area.

Asuogyaman District Chief Executive Godwin Bobobee received the petition on behalf of government.

He assured the workers that their concerns would be channeled to the appropriate authorities for action.
