The police have arrested 24 suspects in a major intelligence-led operation carried out across seven communities in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement issued, the police said the operation was conducted by the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team (SOT) in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
The swoop targeted communities in Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour.
According to the police administration, the operation specifically focused on suspected drug peddlers and other criminal elements. In all, 24 suspects, comprising 21 males and 3 females, were arrested.
Among those arrested are Richmond Okyere (49 years), who was found in possession of a pump-action gun bearing serial number 21GN-1918.
Others include Mark Appiah Kubi, Nkrumah Zakaria, Paul Addo, Louis Samba, Azupah Kelvin, Stephen Opoku, Frederick Boakye, Frimpong Yiadom, Dennis Owusu, Alfred Agyemang, Owusu Davis, Kwaku Agyemang Duah, Akwasi Amankwah, Solomon Asamoah, Bushiru Alhassan, Juliana Vivor, Douglas Osei, Kwabena Atkins, Osman Ibrahim, Amponsah Emmanuel, Kwabena Fosu, Ama Pokuah, and Musah Haruna.

Items retrieved during the operation include one unregistered Toyota Highlander, one unregistered Toyota Camry saloon vehicle, one unregistered Mercedes-Benz saloon vehicle with registration number AS 8724-Z, one unregistered motorcycle, one pump-action gun with serial number 21GN-1918 and seven rounds of RED-STAR AAA cartridges, and one high-security firearm safe.

The Police also retrieved 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, 90 tablets of 225mg Tramadol, 40 tablets of 250mg Tramadol, and 11 tablets of Royal 225mg.
Other exhibits include 38 narcotics processing materials, bottles of Fembude drink suspected to contain narcotic substances, and 40 locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotics.
They also retrieved one Dell laptop, two LED television sets, three boxes of African Viagra, 52 lighters, 12 crushers, four quantities of ash residue believed to be associated with narcotics use, and various sums of money suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic substances.
The Police said all the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations.
“Upon the conclusion of investigations, suspects found culpable will be put before the court,” the statement added.
The police said it remains committed to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at combating drug-related offences, violent crime, and other forms of criminality to ensure the safety and security of the public.
The Service also urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing credible information through the nearest Police Station or designated emergency channels.
