The Coordinating Director of the Okere District Assembly in the Eastern Region, Candid Kape Pawvra, has called on Ghanaians to ensure they see value for the millions of cedis government invests in sanitation across district assemblies.
Speaking during the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise at Aseseeso, Ms. Pawvra linked the recent flooding in parts of Accra to poor sanitation practices and human behavior: a concern the President has also emphasized.

“Government is investing, therefore Ghanaians must also play their part by putting an end to indiscriminate dumping and choked drains that cause disasters during rains,” she said.
She urged residents of Aseseeso and the wider Okere District to make it a habit to organize clean-up exercises to keep their communities clean and prevent avoidable disasters.

Also speaking at the event, the Assembly Member for Aseseeso Electoral Area, Henry Ansah Addo, appealed to residents to sustain the clean-up culture.

He further pleaded with the Okere District Assembly to urgently provide waste bins for the community to help prevent disease outbreaks.
The Asona Hene of Aseseeso, Nana Alex Amoyaw Addo, who took part in the exercise, commended the Okere District Assembly and residents for their participation.

He said such communal efforts will help avert disasters like those recently witnessed in Accra and other parts of the country.

The National Sanitation Day exercise brought together traditional authorities, assembly members, and residents to desilt drains, sweep public spaces, and clear refuse in Aseseeso.
