The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has revived the ‘Samansaman’ sanitation enforcement exercise as part of renewed efforts to restore cleanliness across the metropolis.
As part of the exercise, 13 offenders were arrested in Dichemso during a patrol operation on Monday, July 6, 2026.
The crackdown exercise was led by the Head of the Environmental Health Unit, Kwaku Poku, together with a special task force made up of technocrats and security personnel.
The KMA said that the reintroduction of the ‘Samansaman’ system is aimed at ensuring residents take responsibility for keeping their homes, businesses, and surroundings clean.
It expressed that the pace of sanitation improvement has been slow, contributing to deteriorating environmental conditions in the city.
The Assembly says it is committed to backing its sanitation agenda with decisive action to make Kumasi cleaner, healthier, and safer for everyone.
“A clean Kumasi is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s all do our part by keeping our surroundings clean and disposing of waste responsibly,” the Assembly announced in a statement.
According to the statement, the arrested individuals have been arraigned before the Prempeh Assembly District Court for prosecution.
