Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has joined citizens to mark the first day of the 2-day mandatory National Cleanup Exercise.
The exercise follows President Mahama’s directive to Ghanaians to embark on nationwide cleanups from Friday, July 10 to Saturday, July 11, 2026 as part of the government’s ‘Resetting Ghana Agenda.’
The Vice President was seen using a shovel to desilt choked gutters during the exercise.
Speaking during the exercise, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to actively participate in general cleaning exercises to help prevent flooding and promote a cleaner environment.
She stressed the importance of individual responsibility in protecting communities from the effects of poor sanitation.
“The person who causes the damage may not be a victim of the incident. We know what is right, so let us do it to protect ourselves and the country,” she said.
Her participation highlights government’s commitment to lead by example in tackling sanitation challenges across the country.
The mandatory National Cleanup Exercise is aimed at mobilizing communities to rid neighborhoods of filth, clear drains, and improve public hygiene.
Government says the exercise will be held regularly to instill a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among Ghanaians.
Officials have urged all citizens, institutions, and organizations to take part in today’s and tomorrow’s cleanup activities nationwide.
