Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called for regular national clean-up exercises to help improve sanitation and prevent flooding across the country.

Speaking during the National Clean-up Exercise on Friday, July 10, 2026, the Vice President commended participants for their commitment and stressed the need to make such initiatives more consistent, particularly before the onset of the rainy season.

“I thank all of you for coming out. This is a very important exercise, and my hope is that we do this more regularly, especially in the weeks leading to the beginning of the rainy season, so that we are not overtaken by events. I thank everyone who is here,” she said.

Also speaking at the exercise, the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oyebampo Addo, said the initiative was not only about cleaning the environment but also about reviving a culture of cleanliness among Ghanaians.

“It’s very important. Apart from cleaning our surroundings, it is also about bringing back the culture of cleanliness, so this exercise is very important,” she said.

She disclosed that more than 800 participants, including political appointees, public and civil servants, and personnel from the security services, took part in the exercise.

“We have the political appointees, we have all the public and civil servants here, and all our security personnel. We have over 800 of us working to clean the environment. We are extending it beyond Jubilee House. We will be going all the way down to the 37 Military Hospital, and we are also cleaning the ceremonial roads. This is what we are doing as part of the National Clean-Up Exercise. The President, the Chief of Staff and the Vice President are all participating,” she added.

The exercise forms part of the government’s renewed efforts to promote environmental sanitation, encourage civic responsibility, and reduce the impact of flooding, particularly during the rainy season to avoid flooding.
