Team Ghana’s hopes of winning another medal at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will rest on para-athlete Hayford Addai when he competes in the Men’s T47 100 metres final.
Addai heads into the race as one of Ghana’s brightest medal prospects after an impressive season that saw him win gold at the 2026 Dubai World Para Athletics Grand Prix with a personal best time of 11.09 seconds.
His performance places him sixth on the official entry list, just 0.05 seconds behind Nigeria’s Ifeanyi Christian and within striking distance of the leading contenders for a podium finish.
The race is expected to be one of the fastest T47 100 metres finals in Commonwealth Games history, with India’s Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath and Dilip Mahadu Gavit entering as the top two seeds. England’s Kevin Santos and Australia’s Jaydon Page are also among the favourites for medals.
Despite the rankings, championship races are often decided by reaction time, race execution and the ability to perform under pressure, giving Addai a realistic opportunity to challenge for a medal if he produces another career-best performance.
Analysts believe a time close to 11 seconds could keep the Ghanaian firmly in contention for a podium finish, while breaking into the 10.9-second range could even put him in the race for gold should the favourites fail to deliver their best performances.
With Ghana already celebrating Zinabu Issah’s historic silver medal at the Games, hopes are high that Hayford Addai can once again raise the nation’s flag on the Commonwealth Games podium and add to Team Ghana’s medal tally.
