Aduana Stars skipper, Yahaya Mohammed, says no Ghana Premier League (GPL) team is ready to represent the country in next year’s CAF inter-club competitions.
His comments follow the announcement by the Ghana Football Association that Asante Kotoko SC and Ashantigold SC will be representing the country in the continental club competitions in 2021, following the cancellation of the football season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 33-year-old stiker says he doesn’t have a problem seeing Kotoko and Ashanti Gold representing Ghana at the various competitions but his major concern is, how well they can fare in raising the flag of the country, when the competitions kick starts.
In an exclusive interview with Saddick Adams on Angel FM, the lanky goal poacher doubted the readiness of the two clubs to represent Ghana in the CAF inter-club competitions.
“I don’t have a problem with the two clubs that have been selected to represent Ghana in the Champions League and Confederation Cup. However, are these two clubs ready to go and lift the flag of Ghana high?
“In fact at the moment no GPL club is ready for Africa. The FA would have to select the top 18 players in the GPL to represent Ghana in those competitions,” he stated.
According to him, “Based on the preparation of clubs, Aduana Stars Football Club and Medeama SC should have gotten the nod to represent Ghana,” and not the two teams selected by the FA.
Mohammed was the second leading scorer in the truncated league, after registering 11 goals in 15 games for Aduana Stars.
